The Basics Of Free List Building

It is always interesting to watch major league athletes go to training camp every year. They start by going back to the basics, and that should be a good lesson to all of us when it comes to building our Internet marketing businesses. Nothing is more important to a successful Internet business than learning the proper ways to build your own mailing list.

In this article we are going to talk about the basics of free list building and how you can build a large list without spending any of your hard earned money.

1. Your primary goal when building a list is to have the names and email addresses of people that you can follow up with. Therefore, the first step is to set up a splash page with a sign up form on it.

2. You are asking your visitor to opt in to your mailing list therefore you are going to need to provide them with a free incentive. People have successfully used a free membership, a report, an eBook, or a piece of software to give to their subscribers.

3. The minute that person fills out the form on your opt in page you want to have your autoresponder kick in and start sending them useful information over a period of time. You could refer to this as a free ecourse, and it is the starting point of building a relationship with your subscriber.

4. Some of the more successful ways to get traffic to your splash page include article marketing, pay per click advertising, discussion forums, blogging, and so on. The more traffic you drive to your splash page, the more subscribers you will get.

5. Begin to build relationships with your subscribers. Be sure and follow up and make sure they are happy with the free gift that you offered them. This might be a good time to offer something else for free.

In the meantime, you want to begin to offer useful information that relates to the theme of the product you sell. This information of course is free.

6. One of the most successful techniques to build relationships with your list is to ask them questions. When you find out what people are looking for it makes it much easier for you to provide it for them.

7. View your mailing list as a long term partnership. Never let your guest list set idle without mailing to in a consistent basis.

By the same token, do not over mail your list. Master the technique of providing free information, along with selling products, and you will always have a list that respects you.
