The Best Use Of An Autoresponder

In my previous article I discussed various uses of an autoresponder, sometimes called an automatic responder. This time I want to concentrate on using this powerful tool effectively in your online business.

Whether you have 100 subscribers or 10,000, you need to keep in constant contact with them. This would be impossible if you tried to doing it individually.

Let's look at how you might use an automatic responder (AR).

You may provide a newsletter service to your subscribers as part of your business. A newsletter is also an excellent way to maintain contact with your subscribers even if your prime objective is to promote products or services. You would not want to be constantly bombarding them with sales pitches. A newsletter establishes your credentials and maintains contact between promotions.

Here's the main use, making sales. This is where an AR really comes into its own. There are several steps in the selling process online. Remember that your online prospect (subscriber) has never met you. With your newsletter you have the chance to establish your credentials as an 'expert' who can provide SOLUTIONS.

Why solutions? Answer. Because this is what you are really selling. Not a product, but a product that provides a solution. This is why information products are so popular. People are looking for solutions to whatever it is that ails them in their life.

Here's the thing. Most of us loathe being sold anything but we are willing to buy things if we feel that we are in control of the decision. That is why it is necessary to pre-sell. Pre-selling is where you build up the interest in what you have to sell over a period of time. Done properly you won't even need to mention your solution (product or service).

You position yourself as an expert in whatever field or niche you are operating in. You become the expert that holds the secret to the solutions. People will be attracted to you; you won't have to chase them. This is attraction marketing.

An AR is absolutely perfect for this. Experts say that a prospect might need to hear from you at least 7 times before they are ready to buy. Carefully crafted emails, each with a different approach are needed. No matter how small your subscriber list, an AR is a must to do this task for you.

Now you see what a powerful tool an AR is for your business. It can be used to send out updates of your price list. It can be used to say thank you when a prospect signs up for your newsletter or purchases a product. It can be used to perform all the before and after sales task. A typical scenario with your online business might be:

A prospect responds to your advertisement offering information. Your AR takes over and directs her to your free offer page where she is asked to give her information, particularly her email address, before being directed to the download page. Her email information is captured and she is sent is sent a request for confirmation (double opt-in). Once on your subscribers' list you can keep in contact with her and begin the positioning process, pre-sell, promote offers, give out free information, all of which offer her a SOLUTION.

And this process is done with the use of an automatic responder (autoresponder)! You simply couldn't do it individually. It really is an indispensable and powerful tool.
