Data entry jobs - most common form of telecommuting?

Data entry refers to entering of data into a computerized database or spreadsheet. Those involved with this job usuall have to enter details into the computer. They may also be expected to preserve the integrity of the information and make sure new data is entered correctly. The role of a data entry operator is vital to the organization since it helps organizations keep up with the rapid changes in the workplace.

However, most organizations now, prefer to employ data entry telecommuters than data entry operators who work at the office. This can help both the employer and employee. From the point of view of the employer, data entry telecommuting reduces their overhead costs like a computer and office supplies. Such employers may also decide to cut down on other employee benefits such as employee tax contributions and health insurance costs. From the point of view of the employee, data entry is a standard 40-hour week job. Data entry operators need to be seated for long periods and sometimes must work amidst high noise levels caused by various office machines. More often than not, these workers are prone to recurring strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and back injuries, and eyestrain. Data entry telecommuting brings light in such situations since working at home is always more relaxing than working at an office. Data entry telecommuting allows these operators to work during hours of their choice allowing them to take breaks as an when they feel tired. Furthermore, since a data entry operator's task is already very frustrating, traveling to work adds to that stress. Data entry telecommuting also does not require any form of traveling between the household and the workplace.

It is easy to find jobs in the data entry telecommuting field. Although, you must know that, these positions are quickly filled since, there are a large number of people looking for data entry telecommuting positions. Before you apply for such data entry telecommuting positions, you must be aware of the job selection criteria and the qualifications it entails. Most companies require data entry telecommuters to do 10 key by touch on the keyboard with few to no errors. Other requirements to be met include computer familiarity, a working computer at home and an internet connection.
